Hinged Leather Cuirass Pattern
This is my third leather cuirass pattern and is designed primarily for SCA rattan combat. Instead of a solid body, this version uses overlapping horizontal lames that allow the cuirass to articulate as you move.
The pattern includes four sizes from Small through X-Large. The spacing between the horizontal lames can also be adjusted, which gives you some control over the overall length and makes it easier to fit different body shapes.
The Viking wolf artwork shown in the photos is included with the pattern, but you can leave the cuirass plain or replace it with your own artwork.
While I designed this primarily as SCA armor, it can also be used for LARP, costume or other fantasy armor builds depending on the leather and construction you use.
Choosing Your Size
You only need two measurements.
| Size | Fits Waist | Pattern Front Length |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 30–34" 81–91 cm | 14.75" 37.5 cm |
| Medium | 34–38" 91–102 cm | 16.4" 41.6 cm |
| Large | 38–42" 102–112 cm | 18.2" 46.2 cm |
| X-Large | 42–48" 112–122 cm | 18" 45.7 cm |
The spacing between the horizontal lames can be adjusted to fine-tune the overall length of the cuirass, so the front length doesn't have to match you exactly.
Take your measurements over whatever clothing or padding you'll normally wear underneath the armor.
I guarantee we'll get it figured out. If you're not sure which size to use, just get in touch and I'll help you work out the best size for your build.
